Freckles were the Tipping Point
a poem by Mary Cherry
What started out as a light dusting across the nose, became a liberal smattering.
Some light, some dark, one kissing the top of my lip.
A few splotchy, some miniscule pinpricks.
During the summer they become bold and fearless, blazing brighter than the sun that gave them birth.
Winter makes them cold and shy, they prefer to hide out for a while.
Some say they are angel kisses. I say, they were the tipping point.
The tipping point that turned me from just me to beautiful.
(It's spring right now but come June those little suckers will be dark and out in full force. They'll invite their cousins and distant relatives to visit and I'll have angel kisses galore!!!)
